Free screenings of Polish film masterpieces in the program “100 years of Poland’s Regained Independence” will be offered to a general audience during the 30th Anniversary Polish Film Festival in America. The program has been organized by the Polish Filmmakers Association and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Poland, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, Adam Mickiewicz Institute, and Niepodlegla, Poland. The Centenary of Regaining Independence.
This outstanding and inspiring showcase includes the best and most important works of film from Polish masters: THE PIANIST(2002) by Roman Polanski, the Oscar winner for Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Writing – Adapted Screenplay in 2003; ASHES AND DIAMONDS (1958), THE PROMISED LAND (1974), nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in 1976, and MAN OF MARBLE (1976), all by Oscar-winning director Andrzej Wajda; NIGHTS AND DAYS (1975) by Jerzy Antczak, nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in 1977; WARSAW 44 (2014) by Jan Komasa, and VOLHYNIA (2016) by Wojciech Smarzowski. A short ANIMATED HISTORY OF POLAND, a short film by Oscar-nominated Tomasz Baginski is added as an extra attraction.
Many of the films have been recently digitally remastered. Distinguished Polish and American scholars will offer brief intros and lectures (all in English), including Prof. Lukasz Jasin on WARSAW 44 and Prof. Chris Swider on THE PIANIST.
A free booklet with comprehensive information has been published for the program by the Polish Filmmakers Association.
Admission is free of charge, on a “first come/first serve” basis. The space is limited and reservations are suggested.
