A fictional story inspired by real-life events from World War II about the escape of Jews from the Bialystok Ghetto who then hide in the surrounding forests. When a group of young Poles collecting pinecones comes across a wounded and unconscious Jew, they recognize him as a Klezmer musician who played at weddings and they are faced with a stark choice: if they turn him over to the Nazis, they will get a reward. If they hide him, they risk a death sentence if they are discovered.
