SYNOPSIS
The delegates from Poland arrive in Dresden to ask Kosciuszko to come back and stand at the head of the uprising. . . In Cracow, funds for an army are being raised … Peasants are preparing to fight … Kosciuszko arrives in Cracow and is made leader of the uprising… He goes to Racławice … Battle, victory, parade … Intertvined into these events is the story about the love of Lieutenant Jan Milewski for Hanka, which his uncle promised to another. The lieutenant’s pleas have no effect. Hanka’s fiancee turns out to be Kazik, Janek’s friend … During the battle at Racławice, Janek is injured, Kazik saves him and promises that he will give him back his beloved Hanka.
JÓZEF LEJTES
Born in 1901 in Warsaw, Poland. Died in 1983 in Santa Monica, USA. Director and screenwriter. He studied chemistry at the Jagiellonian University. As a volunteer, he fought in the 1920s at the Battle of Warsaw. He began his film career as an assistant director in Vienna. One of the most prominent Polish cinematographers of the pre-war period. After the Second World War he worked mainly in the United States.
