A young, rich American girl, Katie, decides to make a documentary film about Alicja, an impulsive Polish actress living in London. During the making of the film, the interference of Katie in the life of her character means serious consequences. The film which was supposed to be a documentary about the cancer of Alicja’s partner becomes an exploration of hidden desires and dark sides, both of the character and the director.

EWA BANASZKIEWICZ
Director and screenwriter. Born in London to a Sri Lankan mother and Polish father, studied Film Directing at the National Film School in Łódź. Here she met Mateusz Dymek, with whom she started collaborating in 2007. Her student film I Wish, I Wait (2001) about the Sri Lankan diaspora in London, premiered in competition in Cannes. After graduating, she was invited to the Cannes Cinéfondation Residence in Paris. In 2009, she married Dymek and together they set up the production company Warsaw Pact Films. My Friend the Polish Girl (2018), world premiere at IFFR, is their feature-film debut.

MATEUSZ DYMEK
Director, cinematographer and screenwriter. Born in Warsaw in 1976. His family defected from communist Poland to live in Sweden and the States. returned to Poland to study film direction at the National Film School in Łódź. Here he met Ewa Banaszkiewicz, with whom he started collaborating in 2007. Dymek’s student documentary Ewelina! (2002), about an unemployed actress, was screened at Dok Leipzig. His graduation film Surface Animal (2003) was nominated at Gdynia Film Festival and afterwards he attended the Nipkow Programm in Berlin. In 2009, he married Banaszkiewicz and together they set up the production company Warsaw Pact Films. My Friend the Polish Girl (2018), world premiere at IFFR, is their debut feature.
